History of the Pin Seekers Senior Golf Association (Pin Seekers)
The Pin Seekers Golf Association was originally started in the late 1980’s when a group of local golfers decided they wanted to conduct reasonable cost golf tournaments for the numerous senior golfers in the greater Pensacola area.During the period, 1987 through 1989, Dick Gray, Ron Weller, Mike Miller, Al Fountain and William Roush worked tirelessly to set up and keep Pin Seekers running smoothly. It was decided that each member joining Pin Seekers would be given a unique number. These five individuals were given member numbers 1 through 5. In a very short order, the organization attracted more than 200 golfers over the age of 50.
Later, the first 232 members on the Pin Seekers roster were designated Charter Members in recognition of their efforts to establish the group. The Executive Committee decided that any Charter Members who dropped out of the Pin Seekers could return to the roster without having to pay an initiation fee or go on a waiting to join list. The Association attracted so many golfers that membership was capped at 200. It became necessary to set up a waiting list for individuals who wanted to join the Pin Seekers. During the early years, there was no Play or Standby list for tournaments. All members who wanted to play in a specific tournament had to arrive over two hours early to get to play.
Each year the Executive Committee has initiated changes to modify and improve the way the Association operates. These improvements include the computerization of the play list and standby list to greatly increase the efficiency of the tournament registration process and the printing of scorecards which were previously done by hand. During the over 20 years that Pin Seekers has been in existence, the Association has conducted over 500 tournaments for the more than 1,000 golfers who have been members of the Pin Seekers.
Today, membership is capped at 180 golfers, there is no waiting to join list and if you want to join Pin Seekers complete the application on the web site.
